11 Things Justice League Must Avoid
9. Dull Supporting Character Subplots
One of the biggest complaints about Batman v Superman in particular is the abundance of boring subplots to accommodate the film's excessive array of supporting characters.
Lois Lane gets a snooze-inducing plot where she investigates Lex Luthor's antics, Scoot McNairy's storyline as Wallace Keefe is more confusing than interesting (especially in the choppy theatrical cut), and Martha is a needless pawn in Luthor's game, to name just a few.
Justice League has an absolutely gigantic cast, so there's a natural worry that the film will double down on conjuring up plots simply to justify their presence.
In addition to Lois, the film will feature supporting appearances by Aquaman's advisor Nuidis Vulko (Willem Dafoe) and wife Mera (Amber Heard), Lex Luthor, Alfred, Martha Kent, Wonder Woman's mother Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), Jim Gordon (J.K. Simmons), Cyborg's father Silas Stone, The Flash's father Dr. Henry Allen (Billy Crudup) and his love interest Iris West (Kiersey Clemons). Phew.
Hopefully most of these characters will simply appear in a peripheral capacity while their related superheroes are doing something of importance, otherwise Justice League may simply end up bloated, rushed and weirdly dull at times.
