11 Things You Learn Rewatching Octopussy

3. The Third Act Is An Insane Trainwreck

Roger Moore may have taken Bond to space in Moonraker, but no Bond movie has a third act quite as ridiculous as Octopussy. It sure isn't boring, but it's also an emblem for everything "wrong" with the Moore era, namely throwing as much nonsense as humanly possible at the screen and hoping that some of it sticks.

Here's just a few of the highlights: Bond fights a knife-juggling carny, dresses up in a gorilla suit, battles atop a train, gets trolled by some German kids, gets some help from Octopussy's eccentric troops, enjoys a helping hand from Q in a hot air balloon, rides a horse in order to stop Khan escape in a plane, clings to the underside of the plane as it barrels around in the air, and even slides down a banister while firing a machine gun.

It is truly a "no f***s given" final reel, albeit one that's as exhausting as it is fitfully entertaining. Something a little more subdued that actually made sense would've definitely served the film better, even if this fiery mess of a climax certainly has its unapologetic fans.
