2. The Final Set-Piece Is A Blast

If you can get your ahead around that aforementioned awkwardness, the film's final battle is a ton of fun indeed.

The shootout between the Mujahideen and the Soviets, Bond's inflight fight against Koskov's henchman Necros (Andreas Wisniewski) - which later inspired the video game Uncharted 3 - the plane crash and the final standoff against Brad Whitaker (Joe Don Baker) are all a ton of fun.

Once again Glen finds a fantastic balance between grit and absurdity, ramping the action up to heightened levels but also making the audience feel a palpable sense of threat (even if there's naturally no fear that Bond will die).

Visually remarkable, often breathtaking and always intense, it's one of the best finales to a Bond film up to this point.
