For tax reasons, regular Bond composer John Barry was unable to score The Spy Who Loved Me, so the honours instead went to Marvin Hamlisch, who in turn delivered one of the strangest and most distinctive musical arrangements in the history of the franchise.

There's no denying the classical quality of Hamlisch's iconic title tune "Nobody Does It Better" (performed by Carly Simon), yet the score itself has an unexpected disco overtone, which does clash somewhat with the more conventional orchestral fare that's also incorporated.

It deserves points for being different, absolutely - the synths used for Jaws (Richard Kiel) are terrifically unsettling - but some of the disco licks feel a little excessive if not unintentionally amusing.
