Though the movie's pre-title sequence is pretty forgettable for the most part, it does climax with one of the best and most memorable stunts in the entire history of the Bond franchise.

As 007 (Roger Moore) flees Soviet agents in Austria, he reaches the edge of a cliff, skis off the edge like it's nothing, and then deploys a surprise parachute in mid-air (followed by the expected Bond fanfare, of course).

While the rest of the ski sequence is actually not at all remarkable - full of cheesy compositing and overly acrobatic manoeuvring from Bond - the practicality of the stunt, which reportedly cost $500,000 to execute, makes it a no-less awe-inspiring moment when watched today.

When people extol the merits of practical action over digital trickery, this is exactly why. We know an actual human being pulled this off, which makes it all the more exciting and impressive.
