11 Unnecessarily Flamboyant Scenes Wasted In Terrible Movies
3. The Deer Attack - The Ring 2
The Scene: As Rachel (Naomi Watts) and her son Aidan are driving home, he screams out just as a deer steps out into the road. Rachel slams on the brakes, and after the deer walks off, another deer slams its antlers through her window, attacking her. Another deer attacks Aidan from the other side, and so Rachel slams on the gas, but guess what? Yep, another deer attacks from the front, flying over the top of their car in a crumpled heap. They finally stop a little further down the road, only to find a huge army of deer watching them, before they drive off for good. Why It's Unnecessary: It's a spooky horror film cliche that animals start acting weird around the paranormal, and though the first Ring remake made effective use of a horse, this sequel can't quite manage to make deer scary. Above all else, it adds practically nothing to the plot and is just an excuse to waste a large amount of the movie's VFX budget on deer that aren't even particularly convincing. The Ring Two is a terrible movie as it stands, but it'd be a little less terrible without this pointlessly over-the-top set-piece which inspires more laughter than terror.
