11 Upcoming Movies That Have Ignored Massive Mistakes

11. Waiting Too Long For The Sequel - Zombieland: Double Tap

The Mistake

It is absolutely vital to strike while the iron is hot in Hollywood - if a movie surpasses critical and (especially) commercial expectations, it's smart to get a sequel assembled as fast as possible, while audiences are still interested and before the cast potentially moves onto bigger and better things.

Comedy-horror cult classic Zombieland released in 2009 and performed well with both audiences and critics, almost immediately sparking discussion of a sequel.

And yet, filming was only completed earlier this year, marking almost a decade between the last film hitting cinemas and this one going before cameras.

Though it's definitely encouraging that all four main cast members are back alongside director Ruben Fleischer and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, there's still no guarantee that the charm will be returning with them, nor that general audiences will still be interested in another go-around.

The Lesson

Robert Rodriguez's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is the textbook example of a belated sequel that arrived long after anyone - cast, crew or audiences - really seemed to give much of a damn.

Released in 2014 - that's nine years after the original - the result was a film that lacked the artistry and enthusiasm of its predecessor, tanking with critics and only barely recouping half its $65 million budget at the box office. Oof.

It's proof that no matter the talent involved in a project, there's no guarantee that filmmakers can recreate that special sauce after a prolonged gestation period, or that audiences will be able to sustain their interest over time.
