11 Upcoming Movies Which Might Revive Dying Genres
6. Godzilla: King of Monsters - Monster Movies
The simple pleasure of watching a towering monster tear through a city seemed to disappear with both with Cloverfield offering a fresh take on the monster movie way back in 2008 and in growing fatigue over disaster movies, but with Kong: Skull Island garnering positive reviews back in 2017 the future of this genre very much rests on the success of Godzilla: King of Monsters.
King of the Monsters will mark Godzilla's 35th appearance at the movies, and it seems like Michael Dougherty wants to ensure it’s a big one. A direct sequel to Gareth Edwards' 2014 reboot, we’re looking forward to utter devastation as several of Godzilla’s biggest foes return to Earth.
Ultimately, Godzilla: King of the Monsters has to be good, precisely because it will make or break Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse. King of the Monsters promises us an all-out war between some of Toho's most iconic kaiju, with King Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan all rearing their ugly heads in the trailer. If this is successful, expect to see Hollywood throwing a lot more weight behind more of these movies in the future.
