3. Alien: Covenant
Prometheus was, for lack of a better word, disappointing. It looked great, it sounded great, but the plot was so full of holes and the ties to the Alien universe were so poorly conceived that it left a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths. After a few years, it seems that Ridley Scott has come to that conclusion as well. Coming off one of his biggest hits ever with The Martian, Scott is looking to make the Alien prequel he intended to do the first time, and Covenant is that do-over. Seemingly scrapping everything from Prometheus save for Michael Fassbender (who was arguably the best part), Scott is planning to introduce a whole new crew investigating a whole new planet. Theres certainly a lot of reason to think this could fail horribly all over again, but Ridley Scott remains one of the true masters of science fiction. Having already covered what not to do, Covenant has the benefit of learning from its predecessor's mistakes, and thus, the learning curve of kickstarting a franchise is made all the more easy. Alien helped define the genre is the same way that Star Wars did, so if that franchise can bring itself back to life, theres no reason to think that Alien cant as well, albeit in a much more focused and darker manner.
