12 "Adult" Movie Moments Sony Don't Want Kids To See

5. Pretty Much All Of The Piracy - Captain Phillips

Why would you subject your children to a film about the very real world terrors of piracy? Sure, they might love Pirates Of The Caribbean, but if you're suggesting this as a follow-up, you should probably question your parenting style.

Captain Phillips is an intense, harrowing account of a terrifying real-life event, studded by the kind of documentary-shot violence that really sells the currency of its realness. You watch this sort of thing not only because it's interesting, but for the added reason that these outrageous, unthinkable events happened (in order, in part, to revel in the fact that they aren't happening to you).

But in order to suit young audiences, surely all of the pirates' behaviour and their defining violence will have to be cut? The result will then presumably be a film about Tom Hanks picking up some passengers and then becoming really upset with them for very little reason.
