The Acclaim: Widely considered one of the best Stephen King adaptations to date and an improvement over the 1990 Tim Curry-starring TV movie, the new It received strong notices for its mature tone, excellent child actors and terrific performance from Bill SkarsgÄrd as Pennywise.

Why Everyone Will Hate It: Though It is an exceptional studio horror movie by just about every metric, that won't stop fans' view of it likely taking a huge hit once It: Chapter Two comes out in 2019.

It'd be great to be wrong about this, but given how challenging it will be to satisfyingly adapt the adult-centric second half of the story, there's a very strong chance director Andy Muschietti and co. will actively weaken the esteem of the first film in the process.

Yes, you can argue that Chapter One will stand on its own regardless of the sequel's quality, but the reality isn't quite so simple. The probability of Chapter Two being of a lower quality will only remind people that yes, at the end of the day, these are still studio horror movies working within a clearly-defined framework.
