The Acclaim: Edgar Wright's latest film received plenty of praise for its stylish direction, clever use of music, inspired action sequences and terrific performances. Some critics even called it Wright's best film to date.

Why Everyone Will Hate It: It's easy to be wowed by those undeniably impressive set-pieces, but compared to Wright's other films, doesn't it ultimately ring a little, well, hollow?

The musical gimmick is cute at first but ultimately came across as smugly self-satisfied to many, it's not as funny as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz in particular, the shell narrative is incredibly conventional (albeit well-directed), and the third act isn't particularly satisfying.

The backlash has already begun against this one as that initial superficial allure wears off, and repeat viewings make it clear just how little is really going on under the hood.
