12 Actors Whose Careers Were Destroyed By A Single Movie
6. Kevin Costner - Waterworld
The Actor: Kevin Costner has regained some of his plaudits after a film stealing performance in Man Of Steel, an achievement lessened when you consider that his only real competition was Russell Crowe in a sequence existing only to sell toys. But hes still nowhere near the heights Dances With Wolves put him at and although theres a sequence of bad movies that brought him to this point, one film started it off. The Film: Anyone bemoaning creativity of current blockbusters can be shut up with the mere mention of Waterworld. Using simplistic Hollywood science, its set in a future where all the ice caps have melted, engulfing the entire Earth in water. And boy did it bomb. With a troubled production, the budget ballooned, leading to a horrific loss when the film underperformed in cinemas. What made the flop worse was the amount of high profile merchandising; a novel, a game and three theme park rides. What Happened Next: Costners absence from all things mainstream should answer this for you, but Waterworld, which he also directed, sparked the beginning of the end for that part of his career. The Postman and string of Razzie nominations simply reaffirmed this and shortly afterwards, likely due to shame, the release of his films slowed dramatically. But if you thought Waterworld was bad, just you wait for the next entry.
