2017s Leatherface gives us the definitive backstory to the character: Leatherface, real name Jedidiah Sawyer, is institutionalised after the arrest of his psycho parents, who some years later break him out and go on a killing spree, resulting in the creation of the infamous dead skin mask.

The theatrical finale sees poor nurse Elizabeth, once friend to LF, decapitated in spectacular fashion in the woods, before he uses the lower half of her face to stitch onto his eponymous visage.

The alternative ending is actually way nastier and more in keeping with the horror on display in the preceding movies, especially the original's meathook shenanigans.

Now trapped in the Sawyer house, any thoughts poor Elizabeth has of running are soon kiboshed when LF takes her left leg off with his trusty two-stroke carving knife.

Cut to the scene of LF constructing his new face, soundtracked by the soothing tones of Patti La Salle, like the original cut but with one MAJOR difference: Elizabeth is hanging in the barn, minus a leg and now minus the lower half of her face.
