12 Amazing Premises Wasted On Underwhelming Horror Films

5. The Bone Collector

Brightburn Elizabeth Banks
Columbia Pictures

Premise: A quadriplegic detective (Denzel Washington) works with a NYPD cop (Angelina Jolie) in order to stop a depraved killer.

Serial killer Whodunnits are pretty irresistible and this was blessed with a wonderful cast, but ultimately the actors are so, so much better than anything else in the film.

Basically, this is one of quite a few movies - such as Man on Fire, Deja Vu, Safe House and Flight - where Denzel Washington happens to be completely brilliant but the actual movie is pretty weak. Overall, it feels like an underwhelming, lazy rip-off of The Silence of the Lambs.

Since this also has some stylish visuals and shocking death scenes, this really could've been so much better so it's a shame that the final product was so underwhelming. It's hopelessly ridiculous, the villain is laughable and it's just, in general, very bland and doesn't have enough suspense.
