12 Annoying Fanboy Complaints That Drive Everyone Insane

12. "It Wasn't Like That In The Book/Comic/Video Game"

The Complaint: "If a movie deviates even one iota from the source material, be it a book, comic or video game, then it is immediately incorrect and inferior to the original. There is no margin for error, we do not forgive, we do not forget." Why It's Annoying: Because not everything is meant to be directly translated from one medium to another: the giant squid in the Watchmen graphic novel would've been extremely difficult to convincingly replicate on screen, so they chose to alter the story while retaining most of the meaning. Then there are more pedantic changes or omissions, namely small character moments which simply take up too much screen time. Sure, there are always examples where the fanboys are justified in their complaints (just look at how badly Paul W.S. Anderson butchered the wildly unfaithful Resident Evil movie adaptation), but it's healthier to just treat the cinematic version as its own beast, attempting to capture the same spirit but fundamentally being a different animal. After all, sometimes the movie ends up being better: just look at David Fincher's Fight Club, which even author Chuck Palahniuk concedes is superior to his original novel.
