12 Awesome 2014 Performances In Otherwise Awful Movies
7. Alfre Woodard - Annabelle
The Movie: A spin-off from 2013's smash hit horror flick The Conjuring, revolving around the titular malevolent doll. It's about as dull and uninspired as you'd expect, and full of mind-numbingly bland performances. The Performance: Trust Oscar nominee Alfre Woodard to deliver the best performance of the movie as Evelyn, a guilt-ridden woman following the death of her daughter who tries to help the movie's focal couple bring Annabelle's reign of terror to an end. Woodard does a fine job trying to impart a little gravitas into all the exposition she's forced to chew through, and is basically the movie's hero, given that she sacrifices her life at the end of the film to destroy Annabelle. It's hardly a big part, but about as believable and entertaining as the movie ever gets.
