12 Awesome Summer 2018 Movies You Probably Missed
10. Upgrade
Despite coming from the mind of Saw creator Leigh Whannell and scoring strong reviews, Upgrade's mere $12.5 million box office total makes it clear most of you haven't seen it yet.
The sci-fi horror-action flick, about a recently-paralysed man (Logan Marshall-Green) receiving a computer chip which restores his mobility along with a Very Special Set of Skills, is a marvellous testament to the virtue of ideas and economy over buckets of cash.
Produced for a ludicrously low $4 million, Upgrade is nevertheless one of 2018's most visually impressive movies so far. Presenting a plausible vision of a tech-infused future while employing unique body-tracking camerawork for Marshall-Green's chip-assisted fight scenes, this is a film that embeds itself deeper in the mind than most expected.
Far more than a schlocky B-movie, Upgrade actually gives Marshall-Green a sympathetic, well-developed protagonist to sink his teeth into, ensuring the film is as emotionally gratifying as it is terrifically brutal.
