12 Awesome Supporting Actors Who Need Their Own Movies
1. Judy Greer
And our list concludes with perhaps the most consistently under-appreciated and cast-aside actor on this entire list: Judy freaking Greer.
Despite racking up almost 130 roles across movies and TV over the last 22 years, Greer has struggled to escape her reputation as the amiable, appealing actress you cast as the inconsequential wife/mother/daughter character.
This reached a fever pitch in 2015 when Greer was cast as a thankless woman in four separate movies released in a single summer - Ant-Man, Jurassic World, Entourage and Tomorrowland - prompting critics to coin the term "the Judy Greer effect" in her honour.
It's infuriating considering her obvious talent, underlined by her career-best turn in The Descendants and her terrific performance capture work in the recent Planet of the Apes sequels, not to mention fine comedic work in 13 Going on 30, and of course, her iconic role as Kitty Sanchez in Arrested Development.
But Greer's consistent charm is her biggest asset, and after spending so long playing the bridesmaid, it feels like high-time she became a star in her own right.
