That film could easily be excused as the folly of a young imported actor attempting anything for Hollywood stardom, particularly given the fact the pre-Thor Hemsworth also shot cult classic Cabin in the Woods the same year as Red Dawn.

However this misjudged Ghostbusters reboot was very much in the prime of the actor’s career, and along with last year’s misjudged Men In Black: International, casts his taste in projects into doubt. Whilst both flicks are reboots of popular sci-fi comedy franchises, Men in Black: International at least managed to escape the multiplex without igniting a bitter culture war between fandoms.

Paul Feig’s doomed Ghostbusters reboot, meanwhile, relied too heavily on the usually-stellar comic talents of Hemsworth to accompany its central quartet of paranormal investigators, and along with SNL alumnus Leslie Jones the Thor actor was one of few stars to emerge from the debacle with his onscreen career intact.
