12 Awful Movie Make-Up Fails That Were Horribly Distracting

4. Helena Bonham Carter - Planet Of The Apes

The Desired Effect: An attractive monkey. The Actual Effect: A horribly attractive and confusing monkey. And some serious life evaluation. There was a lot wrong with Tim Burton's redo of The Planet Of The Apes (particularly the difficult to shift, and massively head-scratching sight of Abraham Lincoln monkey) but the oddest was one of the most technically impressive aspects. The monkey make-up. There's no denying that the character designs were mostly impressive - particularly Tim Roth's Thade - but there was something very... off about them. Especially the lady monkeys. There's very clearly an agenda to make Bonham Carter's character a sexy monkey, which probably says something deeply sinister about Tim Burton, or something, but the result is curiously off-putting, like beautifying a pig and acting like it's the most natural thing in the world.
