12 Awful Movie Sequels That Franchises Completely Ignored

Wiped Out By: American Reunion

When American Pie: The Wedding made more than 4 times its budget, it was obvious that there was still a lot of pulling power in the original teen sex comedy brand name. Unfortunately, Universal decided that they didn't actually want to put in the right time, effort or money to make any sequels worth the name to begin with, or that might actually entertain fans.

Instead, they unveiled the direct-to-DVD American Pie Presents series, which were very tenuously linked to the mainline trilogy (and marketed cynically to take advantage of their successes). They were utterly awful.

Eventually, the studio correctly recognised that there was enough appeal in the American Pie name (and the original cast) to make Reunion, and thankfully they completely avoided referencing the Stifler family members focused on in the Presents movies, or the movies at all.
