12 Awful Movie Sequels That Franchises Completely Ignored
8. Rocky V
Wiped Out By: Rocky Balboa
Considering the great, emotional story elements that Creed played with at the heart of its plot, there's an argument to suggest that Rocky V was a little ahead of its time. The film - which was widely panned and still considered the nadir of the franchise - introduced the idea of Rocky suffering from brain damage from his fight with Ivan Drago.
The film tried to refocus on what had made the original film so great - its heart and a downtrodden Rocky on the streets, struggling to find his place and keep his family together as his own world falls apart.
Despite the good ideas, the film was panned, killing the franchise for 16 years until Rocky Balboa dragged Stallone back into the ring for a big-name final fight. Presumably, his brain damage just got better on its own because there was no sign of it at all.
