12 Best Black Comedy Movies Of All Time

11. Fargo (1996)

The Coen brothers have a knack for turning terrifying into hilarious, skirting between the violent to the outrageously funny. This can be seen with the delightfully depressing Fargo, a movie so vicious that it should sit comfortably among some of the most gruesome movies in the world. But guess what? It doesn't. Fargo somehow manages to get away with it, as its underlining humor turns shocking content into nervous laughter.

The movie stars Frances McDormand (who won an Oscar for the role) as the heavily pregnant, Minnesota police chief, Marge Gunderson. Even watching the ready to pop police officer plundering around in the snow is enough to make you realize that this movie isn't playing by the rules, an unborn baby is at risk for the majority of the film for christ's sake.

As the movie goes on, the storyline gets darker and darker, but instead of looking away, we find ourselves drawn to the hilarity. Then things really get bad when you suddenly find yourself laughing maniacally at a man having difficulty pushing a leg into a wood chipper.
