12 Best Black Comedy Movies Of All Time

10. Dr Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb (1964)

Heathers Christian Slater
Columbia Pictures

No black comedy list would be complete without Stanely Kubrick and Peter Sellers' madcap interpretation of the tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

The movie tells the story of an unhinged US general who deliberately launches a nuclear bomb on the Soviet Union. We are then treated to the genius that is Sellers as he takes the audience on a personal journey of insane characters and deranged personalities.

The best thing about this movie is the fact that it got made in the first place. Who in their right mind would think a film about nuclear war would be funny? Yet somehow, it works, with director Stanley Kubrick managing to find humor in the least likely of places and Sellers able to tap into the absurdity of war and everything that it represents.

Even now the movie is as relevant as it was in 1964 with the jokes still managing to find a place in the modern world along with modern warfare and the same old trials and tribulations of nuclear war and the "will they" "won't they" attitude that goes with it.
