12 Best Comic Book Movie Trailers Ever

1. The Dark Knight (Trailer #1)

The Dark Knight had an incredible viral marketing campaign, centred around Harvey Dent's political campaign and the reveal of the Joker, that was so influential countless films are still trying to replicate its success. But while that may have given some fans a first look at Heath Ledger's crazed clown, not everyone is going to take part. And nothing builds hype for a new film as much as a well-done trailer, which is exactly what we got here.

Debuting at the same time the opening of the film was released before IMAX screenings of I Am Legend, this trailer gave everyone a first proper look at the Joker, and any possible doubts about Ledger playing the villain (of which there had been many), not so much dissipated as they were crushed by the sheer force of this agent of chaos. That cackle, the slow teasing of getting a good look at his face, the catchphrases, it's the perfect way to introduce this character.

Couple that with the familiar faces (what can't be improved by Morgan Freeman's voice and a stirring Michael Caine speech?), the idea of it taking Batman Begins to the next level, some thrilling action, and an epic, dark tone that sets up a psychological and physical warfare between Batman and his greatest nemesis, and, well, how can you not be excited?! The best comic book movie of all time. So it's only fitting that it had the best trailer, too.
