12 Best Horror Movies Since The Year 2000
8. The Strangers (2008)
This list has visited Thailand, Sweden, the UK, and Spain before finally making it stateside for number eight, The Strangers.
Up to this point, the movies have been largely focused on supernatural elements: ghosts, vampires, zombies, and the like. The Strangers is more grounded but no less chilling, and sure to have you double-checking your deadbolt before you go to bed.
Rural areas are so much scarier than densely populated ones - it's the reason so many horror movies take place in a cabin in the woods. The creaking door or the whistling wind is probably not anything to fret over, but if there is a wrongdoer afoot there is no one nearby that can help save you. If someone wanted to invade your home and have their way with you, there would be very little to stop them. Is there always necessarily a motive beyond, because you were home?
The plausibility of the scenario in this movie is what gives you lasting goose bumps.
