12 Best Horror Movies Since The Year 2000

No one believes that €œfound footage€ movies are really comprised of footage that was literally just found and edited together by someone, right? There are credits right there at the end explaining that that is not the case. Writers, actors, directors, and many more people had to work hard at their jobs to get these movies made.

The conceit grew stale shortly after The Blair Witch Project debuted in 1999 (and even if that movie had come out a year later it would not have graced this list). That being said, when the effect is used carefully it can still be terrific and such is the case with [REC]. The handheld footage allows the audience to experience a less-polished, more personal point-of-view version of the events as they unfold; in this case it actually enhances the movie€™s thrills.

In the film, a documentary team finds themselves quarantined inside a building as a zombie outbreak begins. Much of the fear is derived from the undead, but the fact that people just outside would rather let the healthy team die than let them out compounds it. This movie may not reinvent the wheel with its premise but it is directed brilliantly and the story does manage to take a few surprising turns; by the end it will have you squirming.
