A complete change of pace from the last two entries, Chained is one of the darker films to be included in this list. There is no comedy as previously included, now we're going straight in to dreadful and bleak horror.

Vincent D'Onofrio plays Bob, a serial killer who poses as a taxi driver to lure women in. After which he kidnaps them and keeps them hostage in his secluded house where he tortures them and murders them. One day out he kidnaps a woman and her nine-year-old son, whom he keeps chained to a bed in the kitchen after killing his mother. He raises the child and forces him to clean up after him and bury the bodies of the woman that he murders.

As said, this is a dark and bleak film. D'Onofrio does an amazing job as Bob, and makes you hate him every second that he's on the screen. He's a bastard, plain and simple. Eamon Farren as Rabbit, the name given to the boy by the serial killer, is just as good. Selling the pain and hopelessness fantastically.

It's not for everyone, but damn the journey from beginning to end is satisfying. However, don't let the disturbing nature of the film turn you away from it. While the subject matter is dark as coal is black, it's not in your face like some other disturbing movies are. This is no Serbian Film. This is no Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom. This is horror because it's real life horror, the scariest of all.
