12 Biggest Box Office Flops Of 2017 (So Far)

1. King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

Ghost In The Shell
Warner Bros.

Maybe Warner Brothers thought they could cash in on the success of fellow Time Warner subsidiary HBO’s Game of Thrones with another medieval-set drama, but unluckily for them Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was more epic fail than epic fantasy.

It looked promising enough at first with Warner nabbing a talented cast including Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law and Eric Bana and settling on a potentially very profitable release date at the start of the summer blockbuster season. They were confident enough to plough a rumoured $100 million into marketing and promoting the movie on top of its $175 million production budget too.

But despite all that financial backing, a promising release date and a delightful cameo from former footballer David Beckham (joking – it was cringeworthy), King Arthur flopped harder than a fish out of water making just $130.7 million.

Apparently, Warner Brothers originally intended for King Arthur to be the first of a six-part franchise but judging by its pitiful performance that’ll be a franchise we never see.
