12 Biggest Genuine Shocks In MCU History

8. Ms. Marvel's Mutation

It would be fair to say that MCU audiences have been waiting for mutants to show their faces in the franchise since the very beginning. Even when Fox’s X-Men franchise was good, you couldn’t help but feel like the mutants should have been at home with Marvel.

Even the word mutant was forbidden, hence Wanda and Pietro Maximoff being labelled as enhanced, and having no connection to their father from the comics, Magneto. Once Marvel re-acquired the rights to such Fox characters however, it was only a matter of time before the mutants came to the MCU.

Anyone who says they expected Kamala Khan to be the first confirmed mutant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a liar. Not typically a household name with the weight of a Wolverine or a Professor X, Ms. Marvel isn’t even a mutant in the comics.

As said previously, creative licence is taken seriously in the MCU, and making the decision to change Kamala’s origin from being an Inhuman to a mutant was a brave one. Brave and wildly unexpected, but only time will tell if it was the right one.
