12 Biggest Genuine Shocks In MCU History
7. Adrian Toomes Is Liz's Father
One of the biggest differences between Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the previous iterations is that this time Spider-Man felt considerably younger. He really felt like a high school student. This was greatly helped by the dynamic between he and Adrian Toomes’ Vulture.
The villain wasn’t really phased by the hero to begin with, in what did feel a little like a match-up between a man and a boy. This was compounded when Peter went to pick up Liz for his high school prom.
Any Spider-Man movie generally has to balance the fine line between Peter Parker and Spider-Man, and Peter’s romance with Liz very much felt like it was the former's story. This was until he knocked on Liz’s door and Michael Keaton answered. Jaws dropped, hearts sank, and the look on Peter’s face pretty much mimicked everyone in the cinemas watching.
There had been literally no reason to even consider that Toomes was Liz’s father. Though he had mentioned a family, there were no discernible clues dropped that his daughter was dating Peter Parker. Keaton played the villain so well that even opening the door to Peter struck fear and intimidation into not only the character, but the audience too.
