12 Biggest Lies In Harry Potter We All Accept

2. Everyone Celebrates Christmas

Dumbledore Mentor
Warner Bros.

This one is confounding, and it’s a lie which Rowling’s own additions to the canon of the series has only complicated.

We’re told from the first instalment of the series that the denizens of Hogwarts celebrate Christmas, making this a Christian school—despite the fact that Rowling’s Twitter claims Hogwarts is an “inter-faith” school, which don’t often celebrate one religion’s holiday over others due to, you know, the whole pesky separation of education and religion.

Now Rowling says there is a Jewish student in Hogwarts according to a recent tweet, but—Why are wizards predominantly Christian? And if they’re not, why do they celebrate Christmas?

We’re simply told that they do, en masse and without discussion, but we never learn whether Jesus was a wizard, or why wizards would be impressed by his miracles if he weren’t, or which of the disciples were also wizards and how many were Muggles, or whether any Jewish religious figures such as Moses were also wizards, or why an "inter-faith" school would celebrate a religious holiday anyway, or whether there are any wizards of any other denominations who abstain from the festivities—folks this one is a can of worms, all unfolding from one inexplicable lie. Just have them celebrate Festivus!
