12 Biggest Missed Opportunities In Comic Book Movie History
11. Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman
If there's any justice in the world then the executives at Warner Bros who rejected Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman project are now being subjected to A Clockwork Orange's Ludovico Treatment, having The Avengers streamed constantly to their unblinking eyeballs whilst the box office figures are handily superimposed over the top. For many Whedon's Wonder Woman ranks alongside Gilliam's Watchmen as one of the great unrealised superhero projects. Its true that at the time the project was first pitched Whedon had yet to make his feature debut with Serenity but for anyone with a semblance of a brain, its clear to see from his track record of creating strong female characters there could scarcely be a better marriage of source material and director. Not so if you were a production exec kicking around Warner in the noughties! If Whedon's take on the Amazonian had have come to fruition it may now have been an integral part of an interlinked DC cinematic universe garnering the praise the MCU enjoys, but sadly it just wasn't to be. It wouldn't be a surprise if it emerges that the Gal Gadot version from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice can link some of her genetic material back to Whedon's pitch though, and it will be worth keeping an ear open for Whedon's comments on the character when the film is finally released.
As well as the odd article, I apply my "special mind" to scriptwriting for Comics, Films and Games... Oh and I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I like to press wild flow'rs, I put on women's clothing, and hang around in bars.
