12 Biggest Retcons In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

7. Hawkeye's Family

The thing that really made everyone love The Avengers was how Joss Whedon effortlessly managed to juggle all the different characters, having a robot man, Norse God, super spy, ancient super soldier and mildly-perturbed scientist work together flawlessly.

Oh, I totally forgot Arrow Man. Well, five out of six ain't bad.

Hawkeye was a bit of a nothing character, under Loki's mind-control for too long to really work in the finale. For sequel Joss Whedon set about fixing that and making Clint a fully rounded character. To do that he had the genius idea that this career-agent loner suddenly had a secret family hidden out at an idyllic farmhouse who just chilled about waiting for daddy to return. Where did that come from?!

Whether it worked depends entirely whether you like twenty minutes of aimless dialogue and plot stagnation in your big summer blockbusters. For me, the draw-over impact it had on the character in Civil War just about justified the whole detour, but that doesn't mean that entire part of Age Of Ultron is a trawl (and that's not even touching on Thor's cave dip).
