It's incredible to think that anyone saw a movie based around the idea of Old Rocky vs. Old Jake LaMotta and thought it would be anything less than an unmitigated disaster. It's even crazier to imagine that someone thought audiences would abide the sight of a poorly-reconstructed CGI Sylvester Stallone in the film's opening sequence, as a young version of his character declares his retirement from professional boxing. As if the CGI-assisted fight scenes between De Niro and Stallone in their primes weren't bad enough, the horrific close-up pictured above was basically the icing on a very yucky cake. It inspires a combination of laughter, disgust and outright horror: take your pick.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
