Coming in to prove that budget isn't everything is psychological thriller Unsane. While the woman-pursued-by-a-stalker trope isn't especially original, Steven Soderbergh managed a worthy addition to the genre's ranks. What's more impressive is that the whole thing was shot on an iPhone 7 Plus.

When protagonist Sawyer moves to escape a very clingy ex-associate, it turns out not to be the cleansing experience she had hoped for; she still carries the trauma from the ordeal. But at least she's away from her stalker, right?

Well, it turns out there are other people who have it out for her, when her seeking psychiatric help for her anxiety lands her with an indefinite stay in the facility. And maybe her stalker infiltrates the hospital to get closer to her in this newly vulnerable state.

The back-and-forth between believing Sawyer's suspicions, and thinking that she has gone through too much to come out the other side without significant damage is suitably exhausting. Phone footage is similar to found footage in that it makes for an immersive watch. We're glimpsing into Sawyer's fragile psyche.

Considering some films have ten times to budget of Unsane and don't manage a fraction of the suspense this managed on a shoestring, it's a very exciting watch.
