And as foregone as Cap's death might be, we conclude with a decidedly bolder prediction for Todd Phillips' upcoming Joker movie.

We now live in a world of many Jokers, that much is clear, what with Warner Bros. juggling both Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix's renditions of the character, and so they aren't especially beholden to one particular continuity to carry the torch for the future.

As divisively received as Leto's take has been so far, it's clear he's not finished with the role yet, while it's hard to imagine Phoenix committing to more than a single movie given his distaste for constrictive franchise contracts (hence why he turned down the role of Doctor Strange).

What could be bolder than making the most of this standalone experiment by actually having The Joker die at the end of the movie?

Whether his psychopathic behaviour land him on the wrong end of a gun or he simply ends up killing himself, the movie's rumoured R-rating would certainly allow Phillips and Phoenix to construct a far grimmer depiction of the Clown Prince of Crime than has ever appeared on-screen before.

It's perhaps more probable that the fate of Phoenix's Joker, named Arthur Fleck, will be left ambiguous in case Phoenix becomes interested in a sequel, but at the same time, don't be surprised if Phoenix makes the concrete call to decisively off Arthur at the end.
