12 Characters Who Will Probably Die In 2015’s Biggest Movies
2. Hank Pym - Ant-Man
Hollywood loves the idea of the Death Of The Father. It's the easiest (and probably laziest) way to transfer responsibility to a new younger character, and while handing over the reigns to the new model is symbolic in itself, it really can't compete with wiping the old school out entirely. With Pym directing Scott Lang from the shadows (or so it seems from the initial trailer), it looks likely that he's going to be the Obi Wan Kenobi style figure whose death not only galvanises Lang's own hero status but also represents something more emotionally important for the sub-narrative focusing on father/daughter relationships that was so heavily dealt with in that trailer. The whole "second chances" motif foreshadows how broken his relationship with daughter Hope must be, and the fact that she ends up teaming up with Lang suggests that Pym has moved on by then. That would make narrative and emotional sense, and you can't imagine Michael Douglas would be signing on to a long-term Marvel deal.
