11. Primrose Everdeen & President Alma Coin - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2
Clearly artistic licence means that adaptations can stray from the original: Peter Jackson's fast and loose treatment of the Hobbit has proved that abundantly. While the Hunger Games has stuck closer to the source for the first three movies, the final chapter is always likely to be the one that gets pushed through a new filter: when it comes to endings and escalation, surprise is the most telling currency after all. So might there be deaths that don't fit in with the novels? Might some key characters be saved? Unfortunately for Prim, her death is an important catalyst for her sister going full Mockingjay killing machine. Just as she is the motivation for Katniss' voluntary participation in the first Hunger Games her death is the mirrored motivation for her ending the tyrannical rule of the Capitol. To remove that would cost the film too much of its emotional heart and its impact, and it just won't happen. Likewise the karmic retribution that sees Alma Coin - Prim's de facto murderer - is important for the culmination of Katniss' arc. Expect that to go just as it did in the book.
