11. The Whole Script Of Iron Man

A critic and a crowd-pleaser, pretty much everyone loved Iron Man for its spot on casting and snappy dialogue, so it might be slightly surprising to learn that the film actually went into production with not much of a script to speak of.

Jeff Bridges, playing Tony Stark’s friend turned foe Obadiah Stane, turned up on set only to find a general outline rather than a finished screenplay and many of the film’s scenes ended up being worked out in rehearsals. Bridges and Downey Jr ended up improvising dialogue and alternating roles until the scene felt right.

Old school Bridges, used to learning his lines before the cameras start to roll, was admittedly freaked out by the lack of preparation – due in part to producers rushing to set a release date before the script was completed – but decided to go with the flow and see the movie as a ‘$200 million student film’. He credits Iron Man’s success amidst the chaos to actor-director Favreau’s background in improv.
