The Premise: Adapted from the memoir of Australian satirical magazine Oz's editor Richard Neville, Cillian Murphy plays Neville while Sienna Miller plays his girlfriend Louise Ferrier. The movie largely follows the launch of Oz's UK edition in the 1960s and the infamous obscenity trial that ensued. Why It Never Got Released: After beginning development in 1998, filming finally started in 2007, but post-production wore on into 2009 as several of the real-life subjects disparaged Neville's memoir and, as such, this movie. By late 2009, director Beeban Kidronbailed amid the conflicts, even though the movie had already been test-screened in a number of locations to mostly positive reviews. Still, many of the Oz staffers decried early cuts of the film, and by 2011, Working Title Films simply decided the movie wouldn't get a theatrical release. Neville said that, "Universal Pictures decided to shelve the film and save themselves a lot of tax payments", which given that the budget reportedly ballooned to £20 million, is pretty shocking.
