12 Critically Acclaimed Recent Movies That Actually Sucked

3. Ferdinand

Ferdinand 2017 Movie

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 71% (6.2/10)

What The Critics Said: Reviewers broadly praised this screen adaptation of the classic children's book The Story of Ferdinand as a visually appealing, sweet-natured good time at the movies, bolstered by John Cena's lead vocal performance.

Why It Actually Sucked: Cena is rather well-cast as the titular pacifist bull, that much is true, but Ferdinand is yet another stunningly dull animated offering from Blue Sky Studios (Ice Age, Rio, Epic).

Serving up yawn-inducingly simple platitudes, an irritating goat played by Kate McKinnon and unremarkable visuals, this is generic-as-they-come family fare that somehow cost an insane $111 million.

That it received two Oscar nominations - for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song - is nothing short of embarrassing for the Academy.
