12 Cult Classic Sci-Fis You Stupidly Ignored First Time
5. The Salute Of The Jugger/The Blood Of Heroes
Ridley Scott's Blade Runner is, without exaggeration, one of the greatest and most beloved sci-fi films ever made. Given this film's legacy, then, why does nobody ever talk about The Salute Of The Jugger (aka The Blood Of Heroes), which was written and directed by Blade Runner writer David Webb Peoples as well as starring the late Rutger Hauer?
Set in a near-future post-apocalyptic world comparable to that of Mad Max in which the only entertainment comes from a dangerous game (known as The Game) that combines gladiatorial combat with American football, Salute Of The Jugger is as ridiculously insane as it sounds.
Falling into almost complete obscurity, this underrated cult gem has everything you could possibly want from its premise: a journey into a strange world, enjoyably over-the-top violence, and meaningful questions on the subject of human nature. In short, it embodies the definition of what cult sci-fi films should be.
If you somehow manage to get your hands on a copy of this film, then it's recommended watching the extended cut as opposed to the original American release, which cut 10 minutes of the ending by placing the credits over the final scene, removing the dialogue.
