9. Superman Returns - Return To Krypton
Released in 2006, Superman Returns was a production that attempted to live up to Superman 1 and 2. While it wasn't as successful as the studio had hoped, moments of the film did resonate with audiences.
The plot involves the last remnants of Krypton causing trouble on Earth with Lex Luthor crafting a new landmass out of intergalactic crystals and Kryptonite that will destroy human settlements. It opens with Superman having been away from the planet for many years.
Over time, further details of Bryan Singer's creation ended up on the internet and fans started to circle around a key sequence at the film's opening. It shows the titular hero surveying the ruins of his home planet in space. It's not on screen for very long, but the art design of the world certainly keeps in line with the Richard Donner classics.
It's a piece of the film that ties in well with its finale; as Superman lifts Lex's island into the atmosphere, he rejects his lineage for good and chooses humanity. With the scene of a ruined Krypton missing, much of the film's opening grounding is missing. What could have been an emotional moment for the Man of Steel instead shifts abruptly to his arrival back on Earth.
