12 Deleted Movie Scenes With WAY Better Answers
8. Return Of The Jedi - Yoda Explains Obi-Wan's Withheld Information
Well established among the masses, the original Star Wars trilogy remains a classic set of films to this day. When pouring back through all the material, fans have an unearthed a missing detail or two. That key question: "Ben, why didn't you tell me?" uttered by Luke Skywalker at the end of Episode V is one example.
Part of this omission can be chalked up to the story being planned out slowly across the three films with three different directors. The major twists of Vader being Luke's father and Leia his sister weren't in the pipeline from day one. Return Of The Jedi offers some explanation when Luke talks with Obi-Wan's spirit, but it doesn't quite fill the gap.
Some scenes that were left on the cutting room floor found their way onto the laserdisc releases in the late eighties. Two decades later, fans were able to upload these sequences to the internet for public viewing.
In the deleted scene, Yoda speaks to Luke before passing away, stating that he told Obi-Wan not to reveal the protaganist's family. With one line, Episode XI is able to fill in a missing story detail. It's unknown why this moment was removed from Return of the Jedi, but it offers a simple yet effective answer.
