12 Despicable Movie Villains Who Stole Every Scene

9. Frank Costello - Departed

Jack Nicholson The Departed
Warner Bros.

Who better to portray an eccentric, volatile and outrageously dastardly mob boss than one Jack Nicholson? Bold, brash, a thick Boston accent with an unflinching arrogance, the Irish mob boss and FBI informant is partially inspired by real-life gangland icon James “Whitey” Bulger, and is afforded the sense of being untouchable.

The pairing of Nicholson's infectious antics and the stellar writing ensure Costello is centre of focus in any scene, it's clear and obvious that anything of note that's about to occur will more than likely be from him. His infamous dialogues with Leonardo DiCaprio showcases the powerhouse of a figure he presents to the camera.

A man of immense cunning, Costello has connections everywhere. He’s covered on all sides and that's how he stays untouched. It's his connection to every potential avenue of the film that forces his presence to remain firmly in the mind of the audience, even when he elsewhere away from the action.

Despised, despicable, captivating, Costello is steals everything from everyone, including every scene.
