12 Dire Plot Twists From Recent Hollywood Films

4. Felicity Jones Did It - Inferno

Now You See Me
Columbia Pictures

Inferno's predecessor in this dire trilogy, 2009's Angels & Demons, had one of the worst plot twists of the 2000s and this terrible sequel followed suit by having one of the worst plot twists of the 2010s.

Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) discovers that the unstable, now-deceased billionaire Bertrand Zobrist (Ben Foster), who committed suicide to escape authorities, has created a devastating viral weapon that could kill half the world's population, which is his twisted solution to over-population. Langdon works with Dr Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones) as he tries to find and contain the virus before, out of nowhere, it's revealed that Brooks was actually Zobrist's girlfriend and is planning to release the virus.

Brooks is a poorly-written character who never seemed like a villain and rather than being shocking, this reveal is likely to make audiences roll their eyes en masse.

It's also, like everything else in this trilogy, totally ridiculous. Instead of leaving clear instructions on how to release the virus, Zobrist had his girlfriend going on a convoluted, barely doable treasure hunt which she requires assistance to work out.

Zobrist had left the task to Brooks in case he couldn't release the virus himself, but it seems illogical that he wasn't able to do that since all he needed to do was slit open a plastic bag containing the weapon. Clearly he didn't quite think this through.
