The Phantom Menace is a prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy and considered as the weakest instalment in the franchise. Between an incoherent plot, cheesy lines and a poor acting performance from one of the lead actors, the movie is as hard to follow as it is to enjoy.

As it turns out director George Lucas actually realised and admitted the shortcomings of his movie even before it hit the big screen.

In a behind-the-scene special, George Lucas said after an internal screening, "It’s a little disjointed. It’s bold in terms of jerking people around. I may have gone too far in a few places.” When editor Ben Burtt pointed out to him that the pacing of the movie was too fast even for the crew, Lucas actually agreed but was quick to add that it was too late to make cuts and that it was actually impossible to cut the movie without actually making it worse.
