Swedish director Tomas Alfredson is well known for his critically-acclaimed movies such as Let The Right One In and the Oscar-nominated Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. His latest film The Snowman, however, is an utter failure with a 7% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

When he took the director seat over from Martin Scorsese, expectations were soaring. However, between the movie's incoherence story, inept actings, and a plot so full of holes that it makes Swiss cheese look smooth, it's baffling how the movie's box office revenue actually surpassed its production budget.

In an interview, Alfredson explained why the movie is such a mess:

“Our shoot time in Norway was way too short, we didn’t get the whole story with us and when we compared the footage with the storyboard, we discovered that a lot was missing. It's like when you're doing a big puzzle and there are missing pieces and you can't see the complete picture.”

Alfredson estimated that in the end, around 10-15% of the movie's intended screenplay could not be filmed during production.
